Manual Processes Created Operational Bottlenecks

Statistics Estonia confronted escalating data complexity with 70 disparate data sources requiring intensive cleansing, restructuring, and validation by three full-time SQL developers. This created dangerous dependencies on individual developer knowledge and availability, threatening operational continuity. 

Manual SQL scripts created vulnerability points prone to errors that could compromise national statistics accuracy. The manual approach forced the organization to dedicate developer resources to maintenance rather than strategic initiatives, while limiting their ability to incorporate new data sources. 

Chief Data Officer Tauno Tamm explained: “Much of the data we have typically processed was from a preceding period, but what a phenomenon like COVID showed was the criticality of being able to integrate real-time data, which was coming at us with greater speed and velocity – faster than our developers could respond to.”

Automated No-Code Integration Platform Delivered Comprehensive Solution

Statistics Estonia selected HULFT Integrate after evaluating six data integration solutions, including Alteryx, Apache NiFi, Dataiku, Informatica, Pentaho, and Talend, choosing HULFT for its optimal combination of price, quality, and customer service. 

The implementation automated critical validation and restructuring processes, eliminating the manual SQL script dependency. HULFT Integrate’s no-code, drag-and-drop interface enabled the transition from complex, error-prone manual processes to automated workflows handling both retrospective and real-time data requirements. 

The platform’s built-in API tools enabled connections to new data sources previously impossible due to resource constraints. “HULFT Integrate’s built-in API tools enabled his team to create connections to new data sources, something they could not have considered before, ‘because we didn’t have the programmers for it,'” reports Tamm.

The automated processes removed the three-developer bottleneck that had limited data throughput and created vulnerability points in critical government operations. Built-in API capabilities enabled Statistics Estonia to expand data source connections without additional hiring, creating new analytical possibilities previously constrained by resource limitations. 

The implementation delivered what Tamm characterizes as “the optimum combination of price, quality, and customer service, delivering the best value overall” compared to all evaluated alternatives. The transition enhanced data reliability while freeing developers to focus on strategic initiatives.

Statistics Estonia envisions expanding HULFT Integrate’s role as pressure continues mounting for more comprehensive and faster analytical capabilities. “The pressure to produce more and better data isn’t going to relent,” explains Tamm, emphasizing that future applications will address growing government needs for real-time insights into economic performance and policy effectiveness.
